Deployment can be rough on the family that remains behind, but thanks to a free program from Project EverGreen, a national non-profit organization, basic lawn care services can be one less thing to worry about.

SnowCare for Troops, a partnership between Project EverGreen and Boss Snowplow Company also provides basic snow removal to those stationed in northern areas.

Both organizations, with the generous support of corporate and local sponsors, community groups, local businesses and volunteers provide complimentary lawn and landscape services, and snow and ice removal services for the families of currently deployed military personnel on a needs-based basis.

This service is only available to the families of currently deployed E-6 and below personnel, and only for the length of the deployment. Copies of orders or a letter from the command may be required to verify eligibility.

Families are paired with local volunteers that offer lawn mowing, trimming shrubs/bushes/hedges, aeration, fertilizing/weed control, perimeter pest control, mosquito control, fire ant control, spring clean-up, fall/leaf clean-up and snow removal — although not every volunteer will offer every service. These volunteers are often local landscapers stopping by between jobs in the area, or who are working on their free time.

There are over 5,000 volunteer contractors in all 50 states. More than 10,000 military families have registered for the program and received an estimated $5 million in services since the program's inception.
